By Michael Caine 7 Min Read

Teachers contribute so much to the world. They help nurture the kids, they put effort into teaching the kids about academics and practicality, and they make a difference in a child’s life. Choosing to become a teacher is an excellent idea because in this job, not only you can teach kids, but also you can learn from the kids too. Every child is special, and every child is different. With the diverse students that you will encounter in your career as a teacher, you can open your eyes to a much bigger picture, and you will learn to love and understand the children more.

To become a teacher, you must first have a degree or a master’s in education and you also need to have passion, patience, and interpersonal communication skills. No child wants to have a teacher who is not passionate about teaching them and no child wants a teacher who does not teach with love. Whatever your career is, whether it’s a teaching career or a culinary career, work at it with passion and love because without it, you won’t be able to perform your job well, and there is no happiness.

After graduating with a degree in education, you will probably now start to think about starting to do the steps to apply for a job; building your skills, feeding your knowledge, and contemplating how to write your resume. When you are unsure about how to begin your resume, you can scan the internet for the best resume example formats so you can have knowledge on how to do them. But this article will give you tips and guides on how to write your work resume when you apply for a teaching career. Below are the elements of your word resume:

  • Choosing an effective format & template.

First, assess yourself before you choose what type of format you will write. There are three main types of resume formats– chronological, functional, and combination. The format that you will choose depends on your work experience and skills. When you are an experienced applicant, it is best that you choose the chronological format because it highlights your work experience in your previous years which is an advantage because some schools target teachers who are already experienced.  It is still also good if you use the combination, also known as the hybrid format because it both highlights your work experience and skills. When you are an inexperienced applicant, and it is still your first time applying for a job, it is best that you choose the functional format for it highlights your capabilities and skills that may intrigue the recruiters.

When writing your resume format and in choosing your template, do not make it so stylish and extravagant. Choose readable fonts, and do not make the size too big or too small so the hiring school can read it easily and properly. Also include line spacings because too tight resumes can be difficult to read and can earn you a turn-off from the hirers. Design it in a simple yet understandable way.

  • Write your contact details.

Of course, writing your personal information is a must. As your header, state your contact number, your full name, your home address, and your email address, and you can also include your personal links. The reason for this is your recruiters can easily contact you and can notify you immediately about your acceptance for the job.

  • State your work experience.

For the applicants who primarily chose the chronological or combination format, then write your work experiences. Do not write it in a dull manner, but make it detailed– including the period of your previous careers, the time you spent working– so the hirers can judge that you can be beneficial for the school, thus, there is a big chance that they will accept you. Make sure not to fabricate work experiences- avoid false admiration from the hirers. Be real with your experiences and also do not write it in a boasting manner. Be real, and be humble. If you are still an inexperienced applicant, you can just state your training years or your experiences being a sub-teacher.

  • Present your accomplishments and educational background.

Having achievements in your career is a turn-on for hirers because they can see that you really are capable, therefore, chances are higher for you to be accepted. State your certifications, your credentials, or the titles you earned. It is also crucial to state your educational degree because it is general and usual to always look for an applicant’s educational background because they do not accept applicants who haven’t accomplished schooling.

  • Write down your skills and talents.

One of the most important is to state your skills and talents. There are certain skills that hirers particularly look for in an applicant. Make sure that the skills you possess are in line with the teaching career. Such as leadership skills, knowledge, patience, creativity, and adaptability. You also have to present yourself as a role model for the students, for teachers are the second parents of a child. Include your strengths and your capabilities that will spark the hirers to accept you, because being a skillful worker will guarantee your success.

Conclusion

This is a summarized guide to help you construct an effective resume for your application as a teacher. Bear in mind to always proofread your work resume in case of grammatical and spelling errors so you can be assured that you submitted a flawless resume, which can increase the delight and commendations of your hirers.
